AliExpress and other cross-border platforms welcome good news! Brazil clarifies that parcels below $50 are tax-free

Brazil , a hot spot for exporting goods, has received another boost. The Brazilian Ministry of Finance announced on Friday that it will not impose import tariffs on cross-border packages below $50 .

Previously, there were rumors that Brazil would cancel the tax exemption for individual cross-border purchases of less than US$50 . Now that the latest policy has made it clear that tax exemption will continue, cross-border merchants who have heavily invested in the Brazilian market can breathe a sigh of relief.

(Reuters reported that Brazil will waive tariffs on cross-border parcels below $50)

Specifically, Brazil has introduced a new tax compliance program that will provide more convenient customs services to e-commerce companies participating in the compliance program, including duty-free cross-border packages below US$50, and said it will explore digital taxation models for businesses.

Currently, Brazil's customs duties require consumers to pay after the goods arrive based on the analysis and notification of the tax department, resulting in longer delivery time. The new plan shows that the Brazilian government will work with cross-border e-commerce platforms to promote the improvement of this shopping experience, and it is expected that Brazilian consumers will be more relaxed when shopping online across borders.

This news is undoubtedly a major positive for Asian e-commerce giants such as AliExpress, Shein, and Shopee.

It is reported that AliExpress ' Latin American market has grown very rapidly in the past year. This year, AliExpress will further expand its scale of attracting new customers in Brazil, and at the same time increase its investment in overseas warehouses in Brazil, which can achieve delivery in as fast as 5 days, providing merchants with double insurance in terms of cost and timeliness, making more categories suitable for sale in Brazil.

While merchants with low customer orders are enjoying good sales, cross-border merchants with high customer orders and medium and heavy items can follow the platform layout to prepare overseas warehouses in a rhythmic manner. This will be AliExpress's key investment direction in Brazil this year. AliExpress's front-end traffic and various business strategies in Brazil will be tilted towards merchants who prepare goods in overseas warehouses.
