According to mobile data analytics provider Data.ai , Bengaluru -based e-commerce company Meesho has surpassed 500 million downloads from Google Play and iOS App Store in six years , making it the fastest shopping app in the world to reach this goal.

 

More than half of the downloads , or 274 million, came in 2022 as value-seeking consumers across India flocked to the SoftBank-backed e-commerce platform. Meesho competes with Walmart-owned Flipkart, Amazon and Reliance's JioMart.

 

The ability to enter the 500 million club is based on its strong value proposition and unique technological innovation . Meesho's Android app is only 13.6 MB, making it the smallest e-commerce app on the Indian Play Store. This makes it compatible with low-end smartphones and ensures a seamless shopping experience even in areas with low Internet bandwidth.

 

 

“Over the past few years, Meesho has demonstrated rapid and sustained growth in app downloads, while also making tremendous progress in user engagement and stickiness,” said Lexi Sydow, head of insights at Data.ai. “The company retains users and keeps them coming back to the app by focusing on making the customer journey smooth. With over 500 million downloads across the iOS App Store and Google Play Store, Meesho has positioned itself as one of the fastest growing online marketplaces in India.

 

Meesho apps have high user engagement - it was the largest shopping app by monthly active users globally in 2022 , adding 97 million average MAUs during the year . Last year, the average session duration on the app was 2 minutes and 27 seconds, the longest among the top 10 e-commerce apps in India , based on monthly active users .

"At the same time, our commitment to offering everyday low prices and relevant merchandise that reflects local markets has helped us penetrate the homes of millions of first-time internet users. With 750-800 million people in India having smartphones and internet access, this presents a tremendous opportunity for us to enable the next wave of e-commerce in India."

 

 

Earlier, Meesho announced that it would reach 140 million annual transacting users on its platform in 2022. With 1.1 million sellers and over 100 million active product listings across 30 categories, the company said it is helping customers across the country discover a wide variety of products at everyday low prices.

 

On the other hand, according to regulatory documents submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Fidelity Investments, an investor in Meishe, recently lowered its valuation of Meishe by 9.7% to US$4.4 billion as of March 31.
