As Christmas approaches, in addition to the rising demand for some Christmas decorations, toys are also very popular. The shipment volume by sea, land and air even surpasses that of "Santa Claus", such as some dolls, scooters, video game consoles, etc.
Toys have always been a hot industry, with an average annual turnover of about $33 billion in the United States. The Christmas period is especially important for orders, and this year's sales have set a record. According to the supply chain, in the seven months of 2021, the U.S. toy market imported an average of $1.88 billion per month, a 50% increase over the same period in 2019.
To this end, many large toy companies began planning early and reopened production lines to try to ensure that their products can reach consumers before Christmas. Even so, sellers have said that demand has exceeded their supply capacity.
Lego bricks have always been a best-seller. Although the company is well prepared, it still feels the pressure. "There has been no serious interruption in the overall supply of our products and raw materials. In addition, the factory and distribution center are close to the market. We believe that we can meet the current high demand in the market."
In addition to the "empty" shelves in offline shopping malls , many toys on e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Walmart, and Target will also face serious shortages.
These high demands are also reflected in "Google Trends" and "USA Search List". The number of toy-related searches has been increasing, and various Halloween and Christmas toys have ushered in a peak in sales.
Although sales are beckoning, sellers are also facing pressure from the supply chain. Problems such as container shortages, congestion, and insufficient labor have caused certain obstacles to sellers' shipments. Toy companies are also investing more money in logistics to cope with this crisis, renting ships and chartering planes to snap up goods.
The head of global air freight said, "It is almost a miracle to be able to successfully charter a ship between now and the end of December." The current demand for charter flights has reached an unprecedented level, and freight rates have also risen sharply. The usual cost of 500,000 has now risen to 1.2 million to 1.5 million US dollars.
In addition to the toy category, many seasonal items are out of stock this year, such as school supplies, backpacks, holiday decorations and clothing, and this situation is expected to continue until Black Friday and Christmas.
It is already a peak sales season, and coupled with the tight supply chain this year, it is even more difficult to ship goods. "Shipping should be done as early as possible", sellers must also grasp the market trend and ship goods as soon as possible to catch up with the traffic heat of holiday sales.
