36% of Mexican consumers will buy new categories of products online

Google and Kantar conducted a study on the new behaviors of retail consumers . The study showed that due to the impact of the epidemic, more and more Mexicans are paying attention to online sales. 36% of Mexican retail consumers bought new categories of products online for the first time, and 29% of consumers bought from new brands .

Marcus Aramburu, Google's research manager for Mexico and Colombia, said: "In Mexico, 36 % of consumers have made online purchases due to the pandemic , but they are not just shopping online . In the future, consumers may increase from 36% to a maximum of 52%.

Likewise, the study highlights that in Mexico, 80% of consumers conduct research before making a purchase , while 29% focus on purchasing basic products through different channels.

Aramburu added: “We know from previous research that there is a consumer who uses all the tools at their disposal to make better decisions . Search engines are the most commonly used , and when the channel is consistent, many similar online orders are generated .

It is understood that 90% of Mexicans will continue to support e-commerce in 2021. In the minds of more than 40% of Mexican consumers , the most popular retail categories include: home and garden, technology and clothing.

During the pandemic , consumers took a leap forward and merged omnichannel shopping , meaning they made purchases from all channels , both physically and virtually .

According to a recent report by consulting firm Kantar, the purchasing behavior of Latino households in 2020 is to find the most suitable purchase channel to reduce risks and have the best equation in terms of price-benefit. Therefore, sales points where products offer physical proximity or digital services are key to selling well during the pandemic .

The epidemic has changed people's consumption patterns. During online shopping, consumers' feedback has always been a concern for businesses. Understanding consumers' shopping habits and analyzing their shopping behaviors are of great significance to businesses in expanding their markets.
