According to foreign media reports, the Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG), Facebook and the UK Intellectual Property Office recently launched a campaign aimed at combating the sale of counterfeit goods online this Easter.
With the arrival of Easter, some products including gift items such as cosmetics, perfumes, clothing and accessories have seen a surge in online sales and are expected to continue to grow in the run-up to Easter .
The " Operation Shamrock " jointly launched by AGG, Facebook and IPO Intelligence Bureau will focus resources on finding illegal traders and require them to delete listings of counterfeit goods.
On the one hand, this is because the epidemic has caused people to turn to online purchases in large numbers, and on the other hand, it is because of the prevalence of counterfeit goods online.
Although lockdown restrictions have been eased , the pandemic has had a profound impact on the retail industry . As many stores remain closed , a large number of shoppers have turned to online gift shopping, and sellers have also joined the online channel to meet this demand .
As online businesses develop rapidly, many counterfeit goods are also prevalent. Some sellers take the opportunity to sell various counterfeit and shoddy goods online to make illegal money.
" Some traders who sell counterfeit goods are using well-known brands to sell illegal and potentially dangerous products online ," ACG director general Phil Lewis said.
It is reported that many sellers use their homes and garages as warehouses to sell counterfeit goods with well-known global brands online , including unsafe cosmetics, perfumes, clothing, electrical appliances and toys .
Most of these fakes are crudely made, and some of the raw materials and ingredients may be very unsafe. Moreover, these counterfeit goods are also an infringement of brand and intellectual property rights.
Therefore, ACG aims to remove some counterfeit product listings online through cooperation with Facebook and the Intelligence Bureau to protect the rights of consumers. At the same time, it warns these counterfeit product sellers not to sell related products. It is reported that this activity focuses on combating related counterfeit products online during Easter.
ACG intelligence co-ordinator Graham Mogg added: “We are targeting traders who are deceiving consumers by selling counterfeit goods online . ACG is very grateful for the support of Facebook and the IPO Intelligence Centre. ” Easter Counterfeit Strike |
