Cainiao and Hong Kong Airlines have reached a cooperation agreement to achieve the fastest delivery of Southeast Asian packages in 3 days

Alibaba is one step closer to achieving its famous promise of delivering e-commerce orders within 72 hours anywhere in the world .

Its logistics subsidiary Cainiao Smart Logistics Network has signed a cargo cooperation with Hong Kong Airlines Cargo to launch the first Cainiao Hong Kong eHub-handled cargo flight from Hong Kong to Southeast Asia .

In the first phase, Hong Kong Airlines Cargo will operate daily flights to Manila, six weekly flights to Bangkok, and three weekly flights to Kuala Lumpur . The expanded cargo capacity will support the growing e-commerce logistics needs in Southeast Asia and enable the Cainiao logistics network to deliver approximately 250,000 packages per week to the region .

In the past, e-commerce goods from mainland China would be shipped to Hong Kong first, then enter a warehouse for sorting and consolidation before being shipped to Southeast Asia. Now , goods can be transferred directly to the "eHub" opened by Cainiao near Hong Kong International Airport , eliminating the need to transport goods to the warehouse first , which will greatly shorten the overall delivery time .

Under the new logistics process, delivery time to the Philippines is forecast to be reduced by 60%, and delivery time to customers in Malaysia and Thailand will be reduced by 28% and 42%, respectively .

“Customers in these countries can receive packages from mainland China in as fast as three days after purchasing goods from Chinese cross-border merchants on Alibaba’s e-commerce platform Lazada,” Cainiao said.

Zhao Jian, general manager of Cainiao Global Supply Chain , said that as the fastest growing e-commerce market in the world, Southeast Asia's e-commerce scale is expected to achieve a compound annual growth rate of 23% and reach US$172 billion by 2025.

He added: “The partnership with Hong Kong Air Cargo will further safeguard the stability and cost efficiency of air cargo, benefiting merchants and consumers in the region.”

“In the short term, we aim to expand our air cargo network to more countries and regions to achieve our goal of delivering worldwide within 72 hours.”
