According to the latest incomplete statistics, the GMV of Amazon China sellers reached 238 billion in 2023, accounting for a historical high of 28% of Amazon’s total GMV.

 

Chinese sellers have always relied on their local supply chain advantages to seize the market, and many of them made their first fortune by selling on Amazon.

 

However, a few people went the other way and chose to go to the United States, on the other side of the globe, to work for Amazon, and also aligned their operational ideas with those of local sellers.

 


Recently, a blogger interviewed a Chinese seller who started a business in the U.S. According to the seller, his team only has three people and has no plans to expand . His main business model is a small but fine one.

 

At first, the three were just international students in the United States, and later they paid attention to the Amazon platform. It was not until 2021 that they officially started their business on Amazon.

 

Because one of the partners was more familiar with products in a certain industrial category, they decided to start with this category, which is still a niche and unpopular category even now.

 

After the product was selected, in order to further reduce competition from peers, we used our professional knowledge to make some differentiated processing on this product, and finally it succeeded in becoming popular.

 

Although the market for this category is very small and it targets a very small user group, the results are still impressive. So far this year, it has sold more than 40 million yuan, and it should reach 50 million yuan by the end of the year.

 

The seller believes that his team's advantage over most Chinese sellers is that they understand American local culture better.

 

He also has a very clear positioning for the team. He only wants to be the "number two" in the category and will never blindly expand the scale in order to improve the ranking.

 

According to the seller, his main target is the top sellers in the U.S. Since these sellers are usually large in size, they will set their product prices relatively high in order to ensure their survival.

 

This Chinese seller focused on differentiation and set the price relatively low, thus finding a "shade" under the "big tree" for the team.

 

When talking about future development plans, the seller said that he would maintain the current team size, after all, a small ship is easier to turn around. If there is an opportunity, he might try to move in the direction of a brand, after all, dreams are still important, the seller said.
