Total value of 4 billion won! South Korean Customs seized more than 11,000 "unlicensed" electric scooters

More than 11,000 imported electric scooters were seized by Seoul Customs in South Korea because they had not been safety verified, had a high risk of battery explosion, and were circulated in the market with forged and illegal origin signs.

Due to the recent surge in the use of electric scooters in South Korea and the frequent occurrence of safety accidents, Seoul Customs has conducted surprise inspections on electric scooters in order to crack down on bad electric scooters and increase users' safety awareness.

Electric scooters detained by Seoul Customs

The Seoul Customs Headquarters said on the 25th that during a one-month comprehensive inspection of electric scooters to confirm their safety and whether they met the origin indicators , a total of 11,461 imported electric scooters that were imported without safety inspections or had damaged origin marks were seized , with a total value of about 4 billion won.

When importing electric scooters , safety confirmation by a testing agency is a must. Of this batch of electric scooters, 4,202 were imported without safety confirmation and circulated on the market without showing safety confirmation details, with a total value of about 1.3 billion won.

The remaining 7,259 vehicles violated the origin marking regulations by damaging the import origin markings attached to the items or circulating them without indicating the origin, with a total value of approximately 2.7 billion won.

Kim Kwang-ho, director of the Seoul Customs Bureau, stressed : "Electric scooters are prone to safety accidents such as battery explosions. There are about 20 shared electric scooter companies in the country that are used by consumers, so the safety of these products must be ensured. If consumers rent shared electric scooters or purchase such products, they must confirm whether there are safety confirmation details and the place of origin."

In addition, the Korean Customs also stated that it will focus on controlling not only the electric scooters this time, but also imported items that may endanger human lives due to violations of regulations and illegal acts. Therefore, sellers should pay more attention to their products!
