77% of U.S. consumers celebrate Easter, and here are some of the things they do to celebrate!

Easter is an important festival in the West. It is held on the first Sunday after the full moon on the spring equinox every year to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion. In the eyes of Christians, Easter symbolizes rebirth and hope.

The annual Easter is coming soon. As the saying goes, reviewing the past can help us learn new things. Let us first review what consumers planned last year.

A survey conducted by the National Retail Federation (NRF) in early April last year showed that nearly four-fifths (77%) of Americans planned to celebrate Easter in 2020 , whether for religious or traditional reasons . This is very similar to the usual situation. In the past 14 years of surveys, an average of about 80% of consumers celebrated Easter.

However, considering the severe situation of the epidemic in 2020, consumers' celebrations are different from previous years.

From the survey results in the above figure, we can find that:

More than half of consumers plan to prepare a traditional holiday meal;

At least a third ( 34%) of consumers say they are connecting with family and friends via video or phone rather than in person.

Traditional activities, such as Easter egg hunts or gift exchanges, are more popular among those under 35 , and even more so among those aged 18-24 .

In terms of consumer spending, according to data from 2009 to 2019 compiled by NRF, consumers' total spending and average spending during Easter showed an overall upward trend. In 2019, consumers' total spending reached US$18.11 billion and per capita spending reached US$151.25 .

When it comes to factors that influence Easter shopping, 65 % of consumers follow traditions, while 31% are influenced by promotions and social events . In addition, consumers are also influenced by store displays ( 22%), unique products (21%) and retail events (11%).

In summary, we can find that the proportion of people celebrating Easter and the consumer spending data are both quite impressive. There is still more than half a month to go before Easter this year. Are all sellers ready to receive a wave of orders?
