After the outbreak, Indonesian consumers avoided markets and shopping malls as much as possible due to concerns about contracting COVID-19 while shopping , and regularly purchased household necessities and groceries through various applications and e-commerce platforms . Many companies and retailers took this opportunity to innovate and launch more services based on consumer demand.

In April 2020, McKinsey conducted a survey of 711 people titled "The Impact of the Epidemic on Retail and Consumer Goods in Indonesia". The report showed that the public 's trend of shopping in physical stores is declining , with 36% of respondents saying they will use more apps to buy daily necessities. As many as 40% of respondents said they will reduce the frequency of going to physical stores for shopping .

In addition, a survey conducted by McKinsey in November 2020 showed that nine out of ten Indonesians have tried new ways of shopping . Relevant data showed that during the epidemic , 36% of Indonesians used delivery services to buy daily necessities . As many as 65% said that they would continue to use these services even after the epidemic is over.
