Huge profit! A couple made tens of millions selling "pickle jar" sweatshirts

In this context, users often see advertisements for various products when watching videos, sometimes it is Anker's power banks, sometimes it is Newegg's wireless headphones.

Other times, users will find a sweatshirt with a pickle jar printed on it.

It is understood that Jessica Sloan is the designer and brand owner of this sweatshirt. She has sold more than 43,000 pickle jar sweatshirts on TikTok Shop at a price of US$44 each, totaling approximately US$1.9 million, or approximately RMB 13.8 million.

While it’s hard to pinpoint exactly when the pickle sweatshirt became popular, Sloane was apparently one of the earliest purveyors of the product. She posted a video of herself wearing the sweatshirt on TikTok in January. A few months later, the pickle craze took off.

“The pickle jar sweatshirt wasn’t supposed to be a product,” Sloan said in an interview. “ It was just that my husband hated pickles and I loved eating pickles late at night, so I wanted to make a sweatshirt to annoy my husband.”

Sloan said that since she uploaded her products to TikTok Shop, sales have started to rise rapidly. This is good for merchants, but it can also lead to some challenges.

Because TikTok has a strict three-day shipping window in the United States, repeated failure to meet the deadline could result in TikTok’s order volume being restricted or incurring “violation points,” which could eventually lead to expulsion from the platform.

A TikTok spokesperson said the company's fulfillment policies are designed to fulfill and deliver orders in a timely manner with the goal of providing customers with a good shopping experience.

For Sloan, the pressure of meeting TikTok's shipping requirements became too great after the video went viral, so she decided to outsource the task to a local professional team.

“TikTok has very strict policies and rules for orders, so we had to bring in other people,” she said. “It would have been impossible for me and my husband and our small family to meet the three-day shipping requirement.”

Now, the brand's TikTok account has accumulated about 230,000 followers, and Sloan herself has become a kimchi star. Many brands even send her their own kimchi products for promotion.
