It is reported that after the Fair Trade Commission issued a legislative notice on all revisions to the "E-Commerce Act", the Korea Internet Business Association and the Korea Startup Forum expressed their deep regret on the 7th that in the process of promoting the revision of the law, the opinions of the industry were ignored and transparent information was not disclosed .
He said: "We only conducted a formal consultation process and did not disclose this matter. "
On the same day, the groups said in a statement : “Before the entire revision of the E-Commerce Act, transparent information disclosure and open opinion collection should be carried out to accurately understand the market situation. The Fair Trade Commission has never made the revision plan public during the stakeholder forum, and has failed to ensure the legitimacy of the content and procedures of the legal revision.”
The groups said: “The content of the amendment runs counter to global consumer protection trends and ignores the various consumer protection methods of startups that drive the development of the digital economy. In this era, there is a high possibility of cutting off the possibility of new consumer rights protection that is in line with the digital economy era.”
He also pointed out : "The content of the amendment not only exceeds the scope of the provisions of the E-commerce Law and the inherent scope of responsibility of operators, but also ignores industry trends and consumer interests. "
In addition, he said: “We need to comprehensively review the newly enacted Article 29 of the Electronic Commerce Act between individuals.”
He criticized that "the personal information of 20 million consumers must be disclosed in order to define individual transactions as e-commerce transactions and require individual sellers to provide identity information. "
These groups emphasized : "During the legislative notice period, we hope to reflect the opinions raised by all sectors. In order to continuously innovate and develop the e-commerce transaction market and protect consumers , we will confirm what is needed now and find the right direction for revision ."
It can be seen that South Korea will strengthen the supervision of e-commerce business. Therefore, in order to keep their stores running for a long time, sellers must remember to operate legally and in compliance with regulations to avoid losing more than they gain.
