Vietnam is an important site for Southeast Asian e-commerce giant Shopee . The latter once stated in a trend report that if Vietnamese high-end brands and micro-entrepreneurs want to attract more customers amid the spread of COVID-19, they need to quickly adopt digital strategies. And, as online sales become a growing revenue channel for brands and sellers, e-commerce platforms need to work with them to attract customers in a differentiated way and expand their online influence. Shopee also cited its work with POND to integrate its AI-driven beauty tech solution Skin Advisor Live into the online shopping experience , providing shoppers with free online personalised skincare analysis to help them make more informed purchasing decisions. POND is also able to leverage Shopee’s interactive tools, such as live streaming, to engage with its target audience. It is understood that Shopee Shopping Mall has more than 20,000 global and local brands, providing a wide range of product choices from daily to high-end goods . Shopee works closely with these brands to create new and unique shopping experiences. However, more changes are expected to take place in Vietnam’s e-commerce market this year as the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a widespread , profound and irreversible shift online for businesses and consumers . Tran Tuan Anh, managing director of Shopee Vietnam , said 2020 was a particularly transformative year for e-commerce, as consumers adhered to social distancing measures and stayed at home, turning to online platforms to shop not only for their daily needs but also for entertainment and interaction. This has led to the evolution of online shopping from a purely transactional experience to a more social one, with e-commerce platforms integrating more interactive elements, such as games and live streaming, to engage users. Apart from this, Vietnam’s logistics industry is also expected to change. Shopee predicts that logistics will become more important as consumers become more dependent on e-commerce and have higher expectations for efficient delivery, with the growth in logistics demand being particularly significant when it comes to daily necessities and household essentials . Data shows that in Vietnam, the number of food , health and household-related items shipped from warehouses has tripled.
