9% of sellers said they did not receive payment in time. What happened to Korean online shopping malls?

According to the survey, one out of 10 suppliers in the online shopping mall did not receive payment for sales on time.

The Fair Trade Commission announced the "2020 Written Survey Results of the Distribution Sector" on the 1st , surveying 7,000 suppliers and store lessors who traded with 29 major distribution companies .

According to the Fair Trading Commission, 3.8% of respondents said they had experienced unfair practices, such as not receiving payment for product sales until 40 days later or not receiving payment at all.

When retailers sell products received through special contract purchase transactions or consigned products, they must pay the price to the supplier within 40 days after the monthly sales deadline . However, under the current Large-Scale Distribution Business Act, the "payment within 40 days" rule does not apply to direct purchase transactions.

Looking at the percentage of sales prices paid without delay by business type, online shopping malls had the highest rate at 9.1%, followed by department stores (2.3%) , outlets ( 2.1%) and TV shopping (1.4%).

The percentage of transfers experiencing promotional fees and unfair returns is also relatively high in online shopping.

2.5% of the respondents answered that they received requests to bear promotional expenses . By type, online shopping malls ( 5.0%) , T-commerce (4.2%) , department stores ( 2.3%) , convenience stores ( 2.1%) , TV home shopping ( 2.1%) , hypermarkets /SSM (1.5%) , stores ( 1.0%), etc.

Online shopping malls said 2.5% of delivered products were unfairly returned, followed by convenience stores (1.7%) , hypermarkets and SSM (0.8%).

At the same time, it was found that 99.0% of suppliers are using standard transaction contracts when dealing with large distributors. By business type, outlets (100%) , hypermarkets /SSM (99.4%) , T-Commerce (99.3%) , convenience stores ( 99.2%) , department stores ( 99.1%) , TV home shopping ( 99.0%) , and online shopping malls ( 97.7%).

The Fair Trade Commission said: "Since unfair practices such as a high percentage of delayed payments for product sales have emerged, we will revise the Large-Scale Distribution Business Act as soon as possible and introduce payment rules for direct purchase transactions."
