Recently, a U.S. House of Representatives Oversight Subcommittee released a report saying that during a routine investigation, it was found that some baby foods contained toxic heavy metals that exceeded safety levels, which may cause neurological damage to infants and seriously violate food safety regulations.
Infant and young children's food contains excessive amounts of heavy metals and is sold at Walmart and other retailers
After investigation, it was found that some of the baby foods involved in the case were sold by retailers such as Walmart. However, when the US Committee conducted a detailed investigation, retailers such as Nurture Inc, Hain Celestial Group Inc, and Beech-Nut Nutrition were investigated, while Walmart, Campbell Soup, and Sprout Organic foods all refused to cooperate with the investigation. This practice caused a headache for the Supervisory Committee.
As the case progressed, some retailers spoke out. Campbell Soup posted a statement on its website saying that the products it sells are safe, and pointed out that the FDA currently does not regulate the content of heavy metals in baby food, so it cannot mean that the products it sells are illegal.
Walmart said it had submitted relevant product information to the supervision team in early February, but has not received any other instructions so far. Walmart officials said they have always clearly required suppliers to provide some safe infant and toddler food that meets FDA requirements.
Currently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is carefully reviewing the specific details of this food safety incident, and the details of the incident will be announced later.
Food safety incidents frequently occur, sellers need to be cautious
The frequent occurrence of such incidents has caused people to think deeply about food safety issues. Food safety issues are of great importance, and infant food safety issues are of top priority.
It is reported that some manufacturers often produce baby food with excessive heavy metals, and retailers also allow some foods that exceed safety standards to be sold, which has very bad consequences. It not only infringes on the rights of consumers, but also damages the reputation of sellers.
"It is extremely dangerous for manufacturers to produce foods that contain excessive amounts of these heavy metals," said Rep. Raja Krishnamoori, D-Calif., chairman of the Oversight Committee . "Now is the time to develop better regulations and standards for food safety so that food safety issues are taken seriously."
An FDA spokesperson said that toxic elements can enter the food supply chain through the environment, soil, water or air, and are everywhere. Since toxic elements cannot be completely eliminated, manufacturers and suppliers must minimize toxic elements as much as possible.
When producing or purchasing products, sellers must carefully review whether the products are safe and compliant to avoid unnecessary lawsuits and losses. Walmart Infants and young children product |
