Amazon India removes violating sellers On February 2 , the Indian government issued a new directive requiring that products sold on e-commerce platforms must ensure that relevant information such as the country of origin is displayed. Amazon India said that within 36 hours of the order being issued , the platform had removed the violating sellers who did not meet the requirements. In June 2020, the Chinese and Indian militaries clashed in the Ladakh region, which led to escalating tensions between China and India. Subsequently, India implemented a series of restrictive policies and activities against China, including banning more than 200 Chinese applications and boycotting Chinese products.
After the conflict, the Indian government issued a warning to the two major e-commerce platforms, Flipkart and Amazon India, requiring sellers on the platforms to display the country of origin of the goods, otherwise the platforms will be fined. The Indian government's move is aimed at restricting Chinese sellers on the platform and boycotting Chinese manufacturing.
In response, Amazon India issued an announcement notifying sellers on the platform to display country of origin information. As of now, most sellers on Amazon India have marked the relevant information, while sellers who have not marked the country of origin information have been removed from the platform. Indian government to strengthen supervision of e-commerce platforms
Recently, social e-commerce platforms such as Meesho and Shop101 have also received similar notices from the Indian Supreme Court. The court requires that the products on the platform must display more detailed product information, including origin, manufacturer, product material, etc.
According to Indian media reports, senior Indian government officials said that the government is formulating a new policy for e-commerce. Relevant meetings will discuss counterfeit and shoddy products on e-commerce platforms, detailed product information (origin, manufacturer, etc.), product packaging and other e-commerce related issues, and establish more detailed management standards and laws and regulations to regulate related markets.
In the future, the Indian government's management of e-commerce platforms will be more standardized and strict. The new changes brought about by the new policies will also affect sellers. Sellers must pay attention to these new developments in a timely manner and adjust their business strategies according to regulations. Otherwise, they will be forced to remove their products or even be removed from the platform. Cross-border e-commerce E-commerce platform E-commerce market |
