300,000 baby pacifiers recalled due to choking risk!

300,000 baby pacifiers recalled due to choking risk!

The website of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission ( CPSC) shows that Mushie & Co. is currently recalling its FRIGG silicone pacifiers.

FRIGG silicone pacifiers are mainly composed of two parts: a plastic shield and a nipple. The problem with this batch of pacifiers lies in the connection between the shield and the nipple. There is a small gap at the bottom of the nipple, which may cause the nipple to fall off the shield, posing a choking hazard.

Mushie & Co sold these pacifiers through retail channels such as Amazon. From April to December 2021, Mushie & Co sold 333,725 of these pacifiers.

So far, Mushie & Co has received eight reports of nipples falling off the shield. In addition, nipple manufacturer FRIGG Production ApS / FB Trading ApS has received about 200 reports of nipples falling off from outside the United States.

According to the query on Amazon US, FRIGG silicone pacifiers have been removed from the shelves, but FRIGG natural rubber pacifiers are still on sale. On the product page of its natural rubber pacifiers, many consumers also raised questions: Wasn’t this product recalled?

In this regard, the editor believes that although product recalls may not necessarily affect the sales of other products, they will definitely affect the brand reputation.

Pacifier recalls have always been a common problem. In addition to external parts falling off, other reasons for recalls include the pacifier chain being too long and causing the baby's neck to be strangled, the pacifier material being unqualified causing the baby to have headaches and other physical discomfort, and the pacifier being fragile and causing the baby to swallow it.

Since infants do not yet have the ability to protect themselves, countries around the world have particularly strict regulations on children's products.

In the United States, baby pacifiers are classified as food contact children's products and are therefore strictly controlled by the US CPSC. If sellers want to sell pacifiers in the United States, they must comply with the requirements of the US Consumer Protection Act and obtain a CPC certification. The regulatory standard for baby pacifiers is 16 CFR Part 1511.

The regulation contains a prominence test and in addition requires:

1. Surface coating limit: Lead shall not exceed 90 ppm (0.009%);

2. Lead content limit: The total lead content in any accessible parts shall not exceed 100 ppm (0.01%);

3. Phthalates content limit:

No more than 0.1% of any of the following eight designated phthalates : di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP) or benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP), diisononyl phthalate (DINP), diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP), di-n-pentyl phthalate (DPENP), di-n-hexyl phthalate (DHEXP), and dicyclohexyl phthalate (DCHP);

4. Labeling requirements for products and outer packaging: Products and packaging must be permanently marked with specific labeling information, including tracking labels.
