India announces large-scale lifting of lockdown! Demand for outdoor activity products may increase

In March 2020, India announced a lockdown. Since then, for various considerations, India has partially lifted the blockade of some places and areas. However, due to the continued spread of the epidemic, the epidemic in India has continued to worsen, and it has once become the second country in the world with the most infections and the third country in the world with the most deaths. Therefore, a large area of India is still under lockdown, and major supermarkets and cinemas remain basically closed.

On January 16, 2021, India launched the first batch of COVID-19 vaccination work, vaccinating nearly 300 million people across the country. The epidemic in India began to be brought under control and the epidemic situation was curbed.

Based on the urgent need to control the epidemic and restore the economy, the Indian government announced the lifting of the blockade and began to open supermarkets and cinemas on a large scale across the country. It also announced that from February 1, cinemas and auditoriums will be fully open, and the previous 50% seating limit will be lifted.

The large-scale opening of supermarkets and cinemas in India has both advantages and disadvantages for e-commerce sellers. On the one hand, the full opening of supermarkets and cinemas means that Indian people will go out of their homes on a large scale, their shopping channels will increase, and they may turn to offline purchases again. The frequency of online shopping may decrease, and sellers' orders may be greatly reduced.

On the other hand, in the early stage of the lockdown, people's outdoor activities will increase significantly, which may cause the demand for household products such as bean bags, ergonomic tables and chairs, indoor fitness products, home decoration products, and fast food to temporarily decline or grow slowly in the short term (sellers do not need to worry too much about this, as the demand for such products will return to stability in the later stage of the lockdown).

On the contrary, the demand for sports products may increase. Indian people love cricket very much. After the lockdown is lifted, they may use cricket to relieve the depression of long-term home isolation. Therefore, the demand for cricket-related supporting sports products such as cricket uniforms, cricket balls, and cricket bats may increase. Sellers can also pay more attention to other sports-related products.

In addition, as the epidemic in India has not yet been fully controlled and Indian people are still restricted from going out, sellers can also pay attention to easy-to-carry epidemic prevention supplies such as masks and alcohol wipes.

As the epidemic is further brought under control, India's economy will gradually recover and stabilize. The Indian government's announcement of lifting the blockade indicates that all aspects of India are moving in a good direction. The stability of the country will promote the prosperity and stability of cross-border trade. Therefore, from a general perspective, India's lifting of the blockade is a good thing for cross-border e-commerce sellers.
