Modanisa is a Turkish women's fashion e-commerce platform with operations in more than 130 countries. It mainly sells Islamic dresses and headscarves, and its online store's transaction rate leads other brands.

Founding Background

When Turkish entrepreneur Kerim Ture visited Mecca in 2009, he discovered that thousands of Muslim women were coming to the holy city for pilgrimage, all wearing traditional, simple burqas.

Looking at the entire Muslim women's clothing market, there are not many stores selling Muslim women's clothing, and the clothing styles are monotonous. Although there are some fashionable burqa styles, the prices are relatively expensive.

Seeing this market gap, Kerim Ture founded Modanisa in 2011, making it Türkiye's first fashion e-commerce platform, providing fashionable clothing for Muslim women around the world.

Modanisa Meaning

The name Modanisa itself represents the concept of fashionable women: "moda" means "fashion" in Italian, and "nisa" means "woman" in Arabic.

Currently, Modanisa's business covers more than 130 countries around the world, with thousands of parcels delivered to five continents every day.

More than 650 designers + 1 fashion show platform Modest Fashion Week promoted the Modanisa brand.

In addition, Modanisa intends to establish logistics centers in Europe and the Middle East to shorten transportation time and simplify the return process. At the same time, offices in Amsterdam and the United Arab Emirates are also under preparation.

Unlike other fashion e-commerce platforms, the women's clothing classification on Modanisa is very detailed, maintaining both the traditional Muslim style and fashionable features.

Head scarves are one of the fastest growing segments of Modanisa’s e-commerce business and are classified as a large category and further broken down into specific types, materials, colors, and sizes of headscarves.

Operational Model

Modanisa not only uses e-commerce as a purchasing channel, but also cooperates with ClothingRIC, a world-renowned clothing discount website, to provide consumers with discounts and coupons. At the same time, it occasionally launches clearance specials online. In terms of e-commerce services, Modanisa provides free shipping services. In some core markets, they have built their own warehouses to ensure faster delivery time and better shopping experience.

Audience Area

Modanisa targets the Muslim market with a large population, including Muslim countries such as Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Bangladesh and Morocco. Indonesia and Bangladesh have a combined population of more than 400 million.

Designer

In order to highlight its fashion characteristics, Modanisa has more than 650 designers who provide unique designs for various types of clothing, which also establishes Modanisa's fashion brand.

Modanisa designers include American model Halima Aden, who rose to fame in 2016 when she competed in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant in a burkini and hijab.

Fashion Show

Since 2016, Modest Fashion Week has held annual fashion shows in Istanbul, London, Dubai and Jakarta, allowing the world to see the beauty of the combination of traditional Muslim clothing and fashion. Modest Fashion Week provides an important platform for Modanisa's designers to showcase their works, and Modanisa's products also add color to Modest Fashion Week.

Development History

-Modanisa’s transaction volume in 2017 reached 200 million US dollars, and it is currently working towards the goal of reaching 2 billion US dollars by 2020.

-In early 2019, Modanisa sold a small stake to Goldman Sachs of the United States and Wamda Capital of the United Arab Emirates, and plans to open an office in London to manage North American and European businesses.
