What is Rent the Runway? Rent the Runway Review, Features

Rent the Runway is a clothing rental website with clothing rental as its main business. Its annual revenue exceeds US$100 million based on EBITDA.

About Rent the Runway

  • Rent the Runway was co-founded by Hyman and Jennifer Fleiss in 2009. It is headquartered in New York and aims to provide women with a rental service for well-known designer clothing for important occasions, such as wedding dresses and evening gowns, so as to avoid spending a lot of money on these clothes that will only be worn once.
  • On the Rent The Runway website, you can choose a dress, bag or accessory and arrange when to receive it. The rental period after receiving it is four days, and it can be extended to eight days for an additional fee. The rental price is usually about 10% of the retail price of the clothing. Customers can get popular clothing designed by high-end designers at an affordable price.
  • Rent The Runway also offers stylists who can help customers choose the right style or narrow down their choices by phone, email and online chat. Rent The Runway will send two sizes to ensure that customers receive a garment that fits. Customers who are concerned about choosing a garment that doesn't fit can pay a little more to choose another style of clothing as a backup.
  • Rent The Runway also has a group of professional dry cleaning and stain removal staff who know what cleaning solvents should be used to remove different stains on certain fabrics without damaging the clothes. A professional dry cleaning and stain removal technician (spotter) must undergo at least two years of rigorous training before he can become a master. With the efforts of these stain removal technicians and repair tailors, Rent The Runway can rent out a new piece of clothing an average of 30 times.

Lease Type

1. Reserve

The price for renting one piece is calculated on a piece-by-piece basis, and you can rent it for 4 or 8 days (slightly more expensive) at a time. You can make a reservation in advance, and the shipping fee is about US$10 to US$40. There is no shipping fee when returning it, and a backup size will be sent for free.

2. Update

For $89 per month, you can rent four pieces of clothing each month to refresh your wardrobe, with free shipping and insurance.

3. Unlimited

This subscription model is aimed at work and weekend wear. For $159 per month, customers can choose four fashionable items from a large number of tops, skirts, dresses and accessories. Shipping and insurance are free. They can return several of the items and replace them with new ones. There is no limit to the number of rotations. Members can also purchase items they want to keep directly.
