What is UPC Exemption? UPC Exemption Review, Features

UPC exemption means that sellers who want to sell products but do not have UPC codes can apply to Amazon for approval of UPC exemption. Once the application is successful, products can be listed without using UPC codes.

About UPC Exemptions

Sellers can apply to Amazon for unlimited exemptions, with a maximum of 20,000 UPC upload codes exempted in one application. If a UPC code costs RMB 1, a single application will help sellers save RMB 20,000, which is especially suitable for sellers who frequently upload products.

aging

Each site applies separately. The exemption application period for new accounts in the United States is generally 3 months, and the exemption application period in Europe is 1 month (this takes the home category as an example, the specific application period depends on the actual situation).

Application Requirements

1. The brand owner, manufacturer or publisher does not provide a GTIN for the product. For example, private label products or handmade products.

2. Non-branded goods without a GTIN. For example, wholesale goods.

3. Parts without a Global Trade Item Number. For example, some auto parts do not have a Global Trade Item Number.

4. Bundled products without a GTIN. For example, a customized bundled product may not have a GTIN.

5. To correctly create a bundled product, please refer to the Product Bundling Policy before applying for a GTIN exemption.

How to Apply

Search for "UPC Exemption" in the upper right corner of Amazon backend, find "How to list products without a Global Trade Item Code (UPC, EAN, JAN or ISBN)", click on it, and download the letter that meets your needs (similar to a brand or manufacturer authorization certificate). After filling out the document, print it out and sign it.

There is a Request Approval button at the bottom of the page. Click it, select the appropriate category, fill in the brand name, then take a photo or scan and upload the signed document, and wait for the application to be approved.

Notice:

1. The uppercase and lowercase letters of the brand should be written accurately, and the category should be clearly selected (multiple categories can be selected);

2. For brands that have already been registered, the above steps can be completed;

3. For those who have no brand registration and no official website, to apply for UPC exemption, you need to download the product list and fill it out according to the requirements. For specific operations, please consult customer service.

benefit

1. Save purchase costs. A single application can exempt up to 20,000 UPC codes. At 1 yuan per UPC code, sellers can save an average of 20,000 yuan in purchase costs.

2. Avoid the risk of buying pirated or inferior UPC codes. UPC codes purchased online are subject to risks such as machine piracy and counterfeiting, which directly affect store safety. Applying for a UPC exemption will no longer require purchases, which can not only help sellers save money, but also avoid a series of risks in purchasing.

How UPC exemption works

1. During the Amazon brand registration process, you can click on the UPC exemption application or directly enter the application link .

2. Select your product category and enter your brand name.

3. If the test is qualified and the UPC code exemption can be applied, click to proceed to the next step.

4. If you are not the owner of the trademark, but you have obtained authorization from the owner, click YES and upload your brand authorization letter. If you do not know how to write a brand authorization letter, Amazon provides a brand authorization letter template, which you can download, fill out and upload.

5. If you are the owner of the trademark, click NO, and the Product Name will pop up. Fill in the trademark name and some simple product attributes, which can be filled in according to the Listing title. On the right, upload the corresponding product pictures and packaging pictures, at least 2, and your trademark must be reflected on the product and packaging.

6. After completing the above steps, click Next to complete the exemption of the UPC code.

Notice

UPC exemption requests require review and approval by category management. Sellers must have been approved to list products in that category before they can apply for a UPC exemption. Generally, sellers must have a sales history on Amazon before Amazon will consider granting an exemption. Applying for a UPC exemption in a specific category must be done separately from applying for approval to sell products.

importance

In order to protect registered brands from being abused, Amazon prohibits new products from being listed using UPCs that are not on the White List. Adding UPCs to the White List is a long and costly process. At this time, sellers can apply for a UPC exemption. Once approved, they can directly list products with registered brands without the need for a UPC.
