Amazon is charging Prime members for same-day delivery

Amazon UK is making major changes to its same-day delivery service, but this change may have angered many Prime members.

Amazon said in an email to Prime members: As we invest in improving our same-day delivery services, we are writing to inform you about updates to the same-day delivery options available to Prime members in eligible ZIP codes.

From September 18, 2023, eligible Prime orders under £20 will continue to enjoy free one-day delivery, but most members will receive the majority of Prime orders delivered next day.

Same-day delivery is available at checkout if required, but for orders under £20 a delivery fee of £1.99 will be charged per order.

As soon as the news came out, it caused a huge uproar, and angry Prime members shared their anger about the news on social media.

One Facebook user said: "So basically people who already paid for the service are going to have to pay more for the service.

Another user added: Isn't that what Prime is for?

A third user said it was time to shop elsewhere , Amazon was no longer a bargain.

In fact, due to various reasons, the growth and penetration of Amazon Prime members have shown signs of stagnation. In April this year, CIRP, a consumer intelligence research organization, published a report on this.

In addition to stagnant growth, Prime members are also facing the problem of declining user satisfaction. According to a survey conducted by Evercore in December last year, Amazon's customer satisfaction rate was 79% at the time, far lower than 88% in 2013. One of the reasons for the decline in customer satisfaction is the increase in Amazon Prime membership fees. Although the membership fee was not increased this time, it has also increased the cost of some Prime members in disguise.

Of course, some users said that since they do not have the same-day delivery option at all, they will not be affected by the policy changes.

It is reported that the same-day delivery service is only available to those who live in eligible postal codes, that is, there is a specific service range. Consumers who want to use the "same-day delivery" service need to place an order before noon to ensure that they receive the goods before 10 pm that day.
