Shopee plans to enter Indian e-commerce market

According to foreign media reports, Sea Ltd 's e-commerce platform Shopee may open up the Indian e-commerce market. It is understood that in early August this year, Shopee released a video related to "Shopee is coming to India!" through You Tube to attract sellers to settle in Shopee India and promised to provide free delivery and commissions to sellers and buyers.

In 2020, India had 550 million e-commerce users , making it the world's second-largest e-commerce market after China. Most e-commerce users are young people, and India has a young population aged 15-34 of 850 million, which has huge e-commerce consumption potential ;

The growth rate of e-commerce users in India is as high as 61% . It is estimated that the number of e-commerce users in India will reach 890 million by 2024. The size of India's e-commerce market in 2018 was approximately US$50 billion, and it is expected to reach US$200 billion by 2027. It is hard not to be attracted by such a large e-commerce market.

It is reported that in recent weeks, Shopee has released a large number of recruitment information for sellers in India, covering different functions such as seller operations, but as of now, it has not launched a localized application or website. Company sources said that the company is cautiously preparing to expand its business in India and has not yet determined a launch date. A spokesperson for Sea did not respond to Reuters' request for comment.

The Southeast Asian group has a market value of US$172 billion and is a major player in Southeast Asia's e-commerce, with global revenue of US$1.2 billion in the quarter ended June 30. Shopee has not only grown rapidly in Southeast Asia, but also has become the most downloaded shopping app in Brazil within two years thanks to its unique operating model. After successfully expanding into Latin America, the company also launched Shopee to Chile, Mexico and Colombia at the beginning of this year.

Now, Shopee has set its sights on India. It is understood that the company's game Free Fire is very popular in India and is known as the country's highest-grossing game, but the e-commerce service sector has not yet been involved.

Sellers who are interested in investing in the Indian site can pay more attention to the news about Shopee’s Indian site layout in the near future , keep up with the platform, enjoy the platform benefits of free delivery, and start the boom in the Indian e-commerce market!
