Warning! Amazon urgently removes dangerous goods

Recently, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned consumers to immediately stop purchasing and using a male-to-male extension cord product sold on the Amazon platform because the product does not meet the standards of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and may cause electric shock, fire and carbon monoxide poisoning during use.

This extension cord has a three-prong plug on both ends and is commonly used to connect a generator to a home outlet to provide power to a residence during a power outage. When plugged into a generator or outlet, the other end will be live, which can cause serious shock or electrocution.

When used, the current that flows in the opposite direction of typical power flow can bypass the safety features of a home's electrical system, potentially causing a fire. And the short length of some of these cords can cause carbon monoxide poisoning if used indoors.

It is understood that this extension cord product has multiple brands and is available in a variety of colors and lengths. It is currently sold on the Amazon platform and the price ranges from US $40 to US$72.

Some of the Amazon Standard Identification Numbers (ASINs) associated with these products are listed below for sellers to verify. The ASIN is located in the product's URL bar (usually after the product name and "dp"), and the ASIN can also be found under "Additional Information" on the Amazon.com product listing.

Sellers who sell related products on the Amazon platform must take the time to conduct self-inspections and remove related products as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary losses due to product safety issues in the future.

A CPSC spokesperson said consumers should no longer purchase male-to-male extension cords from any retailer, and the CPSC will continue to strictly monitor the sale of dangerous products that do not meet safety standards on the Amazon platform.

Amazon spokesperson Samantha Boyd said: "We have taken proactive measures to prevent prohibited products from being put on the shelves. We will continue to monitor our stores and remove any prohibited products. The products involved in the CPSC announcement have been removed from the shelves. We have informed consumers of the CPSC's concerns and refunded them."

However, after the CPSC issued the announcement, two male-to-male extension cord products were still on sale on the Amazon website. After the relevant departments notified Amazon, the listings of these products have been deleted.

Foreign regulatory agencies are very strict in reviewing products on the Amazon platform. Once a safety hazard is found, the product will be immediately removed from the shelves. Therefore, when sellers are planning their product layout, they must ensure that the product meets safety standards, eliminates safety hazards, and avoids forced removal of products.
