Toy sales in Mexico are booming in April, with huge market potential

According to data from the Tiendanube e-commerce platform, driven by the local Children's Day (April 30), toy sales in Mexico in April exceeded Christmas and Three Kings Day , accounting for 18% of total toy sales in 2021. Mexican families spent about 2,585.14 pesos ( about 855 yuan ) on toys that month .

According to the e-commerce platform, in Mexico's toy consumption market in April , Nuevo León performed well , ranking first in sales nationwide, accounting for 84% of national sales . Among them , 56% of purchases were completed through online consumption . Unlike last year, as of April 2022, Nuevo León has gradually taken the lead in sales in the toy category , accounting for 45% of Mexico's toy sales , followed by Tabasco (16%) and Mexico City ( 13% ) .

In terms of trends , anime series posters are the fastest growing products . The report shows that in early April alone , sales of these products accounted for 24% of the country's total toy sales . In addition, the Asian and African Studies University Program report shows that in recent years, Japanese anime series and American Marvel series products and posters have been extremely popular in Latin American countries such as Mexico .

In addition, judging from the search volume of toy products on major e-commerce platforms, robots, Barbie dolls, remote control cars, animated dolls, etc. are also popular among Mexican consumers.

However, according to statistics from EL ECONOMISTA, due to the preference of today's children for electronic gaming devices, toy sales in some cities in Mexico have declined significantly, with Puebla alone experiencing a 50% drop . At the same time, due to restrictions such as the epidemic blockade and supply chain, Mexico's toy industry has inevitably been negatively affected.

But the Mexican Toy Industry Association AMIJU has said it expects the Mexican toy industry to recover 95% of its sales in 2022 .

As the second largest toy consumer market in Latin America after Brazil , Mexico's toy consumer market is huge . Daily life and grand children's festivals, such as Three Kings Day, local Children's Day and Christmas, become important nodes for toy sales.

Toy categories are diverse and have a large market share . If sellers want to expand into the Mexican toy market, they need to pay attention to the local toy ecosystem, the preferred local purchasing channels, the influence of local social media, and the control of festivals. However, current toy patent infringement issues are frequent, so sellers need to be cautious and comply with copyright regulations to avoid unnecessary losses.
