AliExpress counterfeit products named in Spanish market

Foreign media reported that AliExpress' Spanish site was exposed to sell counterfeit luxury goods, including luxury brand backpacks, watches, accessories, etc. The European Commission took necessary measures to deal with such goods in accordance with the law.

Counterfeit products of luxury brands imitate luxury brands in everything from trademarks to product descriptions to picture designs, and are sold on online platforms at low prices.

Recently, the European Commission responded to the request of the infringed luxury brands and began to carry out brand certification testing and remove illegal and non-compliant products on AliExpress. The luxury industry believes that through the AliExpress platform, counterfeit luxury goods have a new sales channel, and this phenomenon has caused millions of losses to their brands.

Among all European imports, counterfeit and pirated products account for 6.8%, with a total value of 121 billion euros. As early as the fall of 2020, the European Federation of Culture and Creative Industries proposed a proposal to regulate the sale of counterfeit luxury goods on online platforms for more than 600 brands currently in the European market.

It is estimated that in the next few years, more than 30% of luxury goods will be sold through online platforms. This is a new model transformation for the luxury industry. During this critical period, online sales of luxury goods require a healthy development ecosystem.

Data shows that nearly 40% of counterfeit luxury goods are sold on Internet platforms. The Brand Protection Association and the Cultural Alliance said that large e-commerce platforms such as AliExpress need to set an example and take the lead in anti-counterfeiting activities.

In addition to counterfeit luxury goods, since 2020, Spanish e-commerce platforms have also been selling counterfeit masks and other counterfeit epidemic prevention items.

According to AFP, Spanish police seized about 4 million counterfeit medical-grade masks in a hotel in February . The statement pointed out that the masks were ready for transportation and would soon be sold on e-commerce platforms. Relevant departments said that for such products, e-commerce platforms should continue to conduct strict inspections and deal with counterfeit and inferior products and those involved in counterfeiting and selling counterfeit products in accordance with the law.

Brand Protection Association Andema said that relevant policies will continue to be strictly enforced in 2021, major platforms need to take positive actions, and sellers also need to pay more attention and strictly comply with relevant requirements.
