Brazil's e-commerce grew 12.59% in the first quarter, and office supplies are still hot sellers

Recently, the MCC-ENET Index disclosed Brazil's e-commerce revenue report for the first quarter of 2022. The report showed that Brazil's e-commerce revenue grew strongly in the first quarter of 2022 , up 12.59% from the same period last year.

 

The head of camara-e.net's online retail department said that the growth in online sales in the first quarter showed that consumer confidence has not been negatively affected under the current economic pressure .

 

In addition, Brazil's e-commerce penetration rate reached 12.4% in February, the highest level since January 2018.


 

Comparing online sales, March increased by 22.03% compared to February and was 3.8% higher than the same period last year . In addition, the overall growth in 2021 was 10.23%.

 

Judging from the regional ranking data, compared with the same period in 2021 , the growth trends of online sales are : North ( 27.02%) , Northeast ( 22.79%) , Midwest ( 15.81%) , South ( 14.36%) , and Southeast ( 9.03%).

 

The growth rates in March compared with February were as follows: North ( 28.28%) , Northeast ( 25.57%) , South ( 24.73%) , Midwest ( 20.86%) , and Southeast ( 20.36%).

 

Taking online revenue as a comparison standard, the increase in March compared to February was 24.62% , while the growth in the past year was 17.17%.

 

Breaking down the regions , the growth trends compared with the same period in 2021 are: Northeast ( 16.75%) , South ( 15.18%) , North ( 12.27%) , Midwest ( 12.01%) , and Southeast ( 8.20%).

 

The growth rates in March compared with February were as follows: South ( 28.21%) , Northeast ( 27.81%) , North ( 27.07%) , Southeast ( 22.96%) , and Midwest ( 21.88%).

 


By category , online sales in the first quarter of 2022 were : office supplies , IT and communications equipment (42.5%); furniture and household appliances (28.7%); fabrics, clothing and footwear (10.5%) ; medicines, medical treatments, orthotics, perfumes and cosmetics ( 7.2%); other items for personal and household use (5.4%); hypermarkets, supermarkets, food, beverages and tobacco (3.9%); books, newspapers, magazines and stationery (1.8%).

 

It is understood that office, IT and communication equipment and supplies accounted for nearly 43% of Brazil's online retail sales in 2021. Data shows that furniture and appliances are the second most important Brazilian e-commerce category, accounting for nearly 29%. Compared with the same period in 2020 , furniture and appliances are the fastest growing segment in Brazil's e-commerce market share in 2021 , increasing by nearly two percentage points, while other personal or household goods fell by 1.3 percentage points.

 

According to MCC-ENET's evaluation indicators, 17.5% of Brazilian Internet users made at least one online purchase in the first quarter of 2022 (January to March) .
