On April 22, World Earth Day, SHEIN announced on its official account that it would cooperate with the non-profit environmental protection organization Canopy to continuously promote environmental protection practices in the supply chain and protect forest resources .
In fact, as early as April 21st local time , the environmental non-profit organization Canopy announced that a group of fashion clothing companies have joined its CanopyStyle initiative. These fashion companies include not only SHEIN , but also All Saints, Target Australia and River Island.
By joining Canopy, these brands are continuing to advance their supply chain environmental practices.
Adam Whinston, global head of SHEIN ESG, said that protecting forests is critical to creating a better environment for humanity, and Canopy has made important progress in addressing the social and environmental issues related to man-made fibers, so SHEIN is very happy to work with Canopy on environmental protection.
SHEIN has pledged to end the purchase of viscose fabrics and paper packaging from ancient endangered forests, and use its influence in the supply chain to prioritize raw materials such as recycled textiles and alternative fibers from agricultural residues , and when necessary, only use fibers from forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) .
Data shows that more than 200 million trees are cut down every year to make clothing materials such as viscose and rayon. Many of these trees come from the world's most important forest ecosystems. If these trees were connected end to end, they would circle the earth seven times.
From SHEIN, to Hanky Panky and ocean+main in the US, River Island and AllSaints in the UK, to Kmart Australia and Boody in Australia, these influential fashion companies are joining forces to save forests with the 478 brands that have signed up to CanopyStyle.
As we all know, fashion is a reflection of society. Currently, many fashion brands have incorporated global environmental issues into their design concepts and have begun to transform towards sustainable fashion.
In addition to the brands that joined on Earth Day, many brands such as Gucci, Eileen Fisher, Edun, Adidas, Puma and others have also begun to use environmentally friendly materials and try to create sustainable and organic clothing.
Not only that, more and more consumers are beginning to pay attention to the sustainability of clothing, and brands' preference for sustainable clothing is also a reflection of consumers' shopping preferences.
According to the results of FloorFound's first Earth Day consumer survey, 69% of Americans have begun purchasing resale and secondhand products, and clothing is a popular category in the secondhand goods market.
The reason why many global fashion brands chose to innovate their supply chains and protect forests on this year's Earth Day is because forests play an important role in alleviating the climate crisis and protecting biodiversity. It is also because sustainable fashion has become a trend in future corporate development. The current decade is a turning point for forest protection and is crucial. Therefore, many brands attach importance to forest protection. Cross-border e-commerce market SHEIN |
