Recently, according to foreign media reports, according to iPrice data, Tokopedia has become the most visited e-commerce platform in Indonesia.
According to Peta E-Commerce Indonesia's report data, Tokopedia's monthly web visitors reached 147.79 million in the second quarter of 2021, making it the most visited e-commerce platform in Indonesia.
According to Euromonitor International's 2021 Asia's Top 100 Retailers report released in May last year, Tokopedia has a huge consumer market in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Data shows that Southeast Asia's retail industry fell by 6% in 2020, and the second and third waves of the Covid-19 epidemic in some regions have even exacerbated the situation, which has had a huge impact on the recovery speed of domestic companies.
While these two epidemic shocks brought crises to traditional offline sellers, they also created opportunities for the rise of e-commerce companies. Tokopedia is one of them. It surpassed 7-11's parent company Seven & I Holdings Co Ltd in the previous year and is currently ranked first among the best retailers in Southeast Asia.
According to a report by Euromonitor International, the retail landscape in Southeast Asia is constantly changing, and online conversion rates are increasing. At the same time, Southeast Asian consumers are becoming more and more proficient in online shopping, so many merchants and business owners are turning to omni-channel e-commerce. Euromonitor International emphasized that "as more consumers who are proficient in online shopping emerge, brands are forced to explore omni-channel sales models, and e-commerce is expected to continue to increase its impact on the retail industry."
Tokopedia CEO Wiliam Tanuwidjaja said in an interview on September 18, 2021 that the endorsements of BTS and Blackpink have strengthened the company's own competitive advantage. "When we invite groups such as BTS and Blackpink, we can get a global trending topic every month."
BTS and Blackpink appeared on the Indonesia Shopping Time (WIB) TV show held at the end of each month. The program aims to encourage sales of Tokopedia partners who mainly sell local products. William said: "We know that we have to encourage consumer demand, so at the end of each month, we will have a program to encourage them to shop, especially local products."
