eBay UK launches "Imperfects" platform to "find a way out" for products with minor defects

According to foreign media reports, eBay UK is launching the " Imperfects " platform recently, which aims to reduce the waste of fashion products.

The Imperfects platform will collaborate with more than a hundred high street and high-end brands , such as North Face, Off White, Puma, Fila and Timberland . The products sold include new but slightly defective clothes, shoes and accessories , and buyers can enjoy discounts of up to 60%.

It is understood that the launch of this platform is to commemorate the April 22 World Earth Day. Currently, consumers are more and more aware of environmental protection. Selling products with minor defects that do not affect the actual function and overall beauty can not only implement the concept of environmental protection, but also reduce consumer spending.

According to eBay's definition of "defective products", they refer to minor defects such as small wear or marks, missing buttons or loose stitching . These products may be discarded before leaving the factory because they do not meet the manufacturer's quality standards , which also means that they cannot be sold at full price on Imperfects .

eBay says all defects will be clearly marked in the product listing with real photos so customers know exactly what the product actually looks like . Buyers on Imperfects also get free shipping and 30-day returns with a money-back guarantee.

It is understood that in 2021 , the search volume for " old clothes I liked in the past " on eBay UK increased by 9 times last year, and the search volume for " second-hand clothes " increased by 156%. On eBay, two " old clothes I liked in the past " are sold every second, and a refurbished technology product is sold every 10 seconds. Data shows that in the past three years , the sales of second-hand goods in the UK have grown steadily, reaching an index level of 158.8 in November 2021. In 2021, the sales of second-hand products in the UK increased by 27.2% year-on-year .

Jemma Tadd, head of eBay’s UK fashion division , said that as financial pressures increase and the climate crisis becomes a growing concern for consumers , the launch of Imperfects can help new products avoid the fate of going to landfill .

Imperfects provides a sales platform for defective products that do not affect their functions and appearance . It not only protects the environment, but also reduces unnecessary costs for manufacturers and sellers, while alleviating the pressure on consumers' spending.
