Cainiao International launches three weekly cargo flights between Malaysia and the UK, shortening logistics time by 6 hours and reducing logistics costs by 10%

Cainiao Malaysia Kuala Lumpur eHub is an important project under the eWTP (World Electronic Trade Platform) cooperation framework. It was officially put into operation on November 1, 2021, one year after its trial operation. The eHub is located next to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, covering an area of more than 240,000 square meters, of which the logistics and warehousing area exceeds 100,000 square meters, including an air cargo terminal, a distribution center and an order fulfillment center, and is independently operated by Cainiao.

Goods exported from Malaysia to the UK can be boarded after customs clearance at Cainiao Kuala Lumpur eHub and land at London Heathrow Airport about 13.5 hours later. Compared with the past, the flight time of the Kuala Lumpur-London direct flight has been shortened by 6 hours, reducing logistics costs by nearly 10%. The Kuala Lumpur-Hangzhou flight to China currently operates 5 flights per week, each of which can provide more than 20 tons of transportation capacity, capable of transporting local specialties such as blue crabs, bird's nests, live shrimps, as well as semiconductors, machinery and other goods, reducing logistics costs by about 10%.

Cainiao can provide full-link logistics services for B2B and B2C, helping more merchants around the world to enter the Chinese market and expand into the global market. For example, the Kuala Lumpur-London flight currently mainly serves local eBay merchants in Malaysia.

Goods from merchants in other countries can be transferred through Cainiao Kuala Lumpur eHub and then sold globally. Currently, Cainiao's digital customs clearance system can shorten the customs clearance time by more than 95%, from the previous 24-48 hours to 1.5 hours, further improving the efficiency of the entire logistics chain.

Data from the Malaysian Statistics Department showed that driven by exports and re-exports, Malaysia's total exports in December 2021 increased by 29.2% year-on-year. The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) officially came into effect for Malaysia on March 18. Combined with the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, it will further unleash the development potential of China-Malaysia trade in goods, and will also help promote regional industrial transformation and upgrading, injecting new vitality into regional economic development.

"Expanding the direct air cargo network of the Kuala Lumpur eHub is Cainiao's key support for Malaysia's expansion of global trade. We hope to provide stable, efficient and inclusive cross-border logistics solutions to global merchants, especially small and medium-sized merchants, through the continuous construction of global logistics infrastructure, helping merchants to expand into the global market and increase the competitiveness of their products." Ouyang Chongguang, general manager of the Asia-Pacific eHub of Cainiao International Export Business Unit, said that Kuala Lumpur is an important gateway for ASEAN trade, and Cainiao eHub's digital logistics capabilities will be able to further leverage its location advantages and help global merchants participate in cross-border trade.

Relying on the eHub in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia , Cainiao will further expand its air cargo network to cover the ASEAN and European markets, and is expected to open direct flights from Malaysia to Singapore, Brunei, Australia, New Zealand and other countries.

Data shows that in the fourth quarter of 2021, Cainiao International’s average daily cross-border parcels exceeded 5 million, continuing to stand shoulder to shoulder with international logistics giants. Among them, the “5 US dollars for 10-day delivery” logistics product has covered 20 countries, helping more cross-border merchants “deliver to the world with the money for a cup of coffee.”
