Maersk's e-commerce logistics unit enters US market

In 2021, Maersk made a series of acquisitions to incorporate e-commerce capabilities into the company's business model , with a focus on fulfillment operations for both B2C and B2B .

It has successively acquired Visible SCM, an e-commerce fulfillment company based in Salt Lake City, Utah , USA ; two e-commerce companies in Europe, B2C Europe and HUUB; and LF Logistics in Hong Kong, Asia , which has enabled Maersk's e-commerce logistics sector to expand rapidly .

Maersk eCommerce Logistics operates a network of nine strategically located fulfillment centers, enabling it to serve 75% of the U.S. population within 24 hours and 95% of the U.S. population within 48 hours .

At the same time, Maersk serves 80,000 customers worldwide through its B2B supply chain. Its e-commerce logistics platform covers end -to-end management tools from source to final destination: delivery , inventory, package costs, order management and invoicing systems .

Maersk's e-commerce logistics division complements its North American integrated land logistics supply chain business model. Its team in El Segundo, California , operates more than 60 distribution centers and transportation services , and recently announced an order for 300 electric trucks to develop sustainable land transportation.

Additionally, Maersk North America’s proposed acquisition of Pilot Freight Services is under regulatory review prior to closing in the second quarter of 2022, which will add 87 additional locations to serve first, middle and last mile logistics across the United States.

It is worth mentioning that Maersk's system has made e-commerce logistics more reliable , simple and global . More importantly , its inventory can be placed closer to customers, thereby increasing delivery speed at a lower cost.

Casey Adams, Maersk's head of e-commerce logistics in North America , said that as the demand for online shopping by American consumers continues to grow, competition among companies is becoming increasingly fierce. Maersk's logistics network aims to provide customers with professional B2C logistics, package delivery and supply chain visualization services. By providing customers with integrated services, the e-commerce supply chain will be simpler and more robust.
