Recently, DHL announced that it has reached a new long-term strategic agreement with Cargoje to further strengthen its global aviation network.
The five-year agreement , with an option to renew for an additional two years, will see Cargojet provide ACMI, CMI, charter and dry-lease aircraft services to support DHL’s international requirements to Europe , North, South, Central and Latin America and Asia . Cargojet currently uses 12 freighters to meet DHL’s requirements.
DHL plans to add five B767 freighters between 2022 and 2023 to meet its expected network demand , building on the company's rapid expansion of its air network over the past two years . In the Americas, DHL increased its overall air capacity by 18% during the 2021 peak season to respond to surging demand, especially in e-commerce. It recently added a new weekly air connection from Vietnam to the United States, adding 102 tons of additional capacity for customers shipping from Asia to the Americas region.
DHL intends to be the first launch customer for Cargojet’s state-of-the-art B777 widebody, long-range converted freighter, which is expected to be deployed in late 2023 or early 2024. The more fuel - efficient freighter will support efforts to improve the carbon footprint of its transport operations while promoting customer growth.
Since 2018, DHL has purchased 28 new Boeing 777Fs to add to the company’s global fleet, with many of the service points located between the Americas and the rest of the world.
Regarding this cooperation, DHL said that Cargojet is an important aviation partner in North America, and the expansion of this relationship further strengthens its intra-regional and intercontinental connections to and from the region. The long-term strategic alliance with Cargojet will bring additional capacity and enable it to continue to provide the highest level of service quality to the market . Its versatile freight fleet and long-term high reliability enable DHL to better further take advantage of the dynamically growing e-commerce market.
In addition, in order to align interests and strengthen the long-term strategic relationship, Cargojet will issue DHL warrants to acquire up to 9.5% of the outstanding voting shares of Cargojet . DHL aviation Cargojet |
