The distribution center is located in the concentrated warehouse and distribution area of local multinational companies in Mexico State, about 30 kilometers away from Mexico City International Airport , about an hour's drive away. Cainiao and its partners jointly operate the center. The distribution center is equipped with automatic assembly lines, reciprocating one-point-many sorting machines and other intelligent logistics equipment, and is equipped with a self-developed overseas distribution system (GXMS).
It is reported that this is the first distribution center built by Cainiao in the Americas and the ninth distribution center opened by Cainiao globally .
According to data from the Mexican Online Retail Association ( AMVO), Mexico's e-commerce sales reached 401 billion pesos (about 127.2 billion yuan) in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 27%, exceeding more developed countries such as France, Germany, Italy and Brazil. Currently, the global average level of e-commerce sales is about 16.8%.
With the continuous improvement of cross-border logistics, local consumers in Mexico can buy products at a better price than local ones through cross-border e-commerce. According to Chinese customs statistics, the total trade volume between China and Latin America reached US$451.59 billion in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 41.1%, of which China's exports reached US$229.01 billion, a year-on-year increase of 52%. Mexico is China's second largest trading partner in Latin America and the Caribbean.
After the opening of the Mexican distribution center, the delivery time of some logistics products of Cainiao in Latin America has increased by about 10%. At the same time, combined with Cainiao's digital logistics technology, parcels sent to the local area will have more detailed logistics fulfillment information, allowing merchants and consumers to know the location of the parcel faster and more accurately. Focusing on the distribution center and continuous localization construction, Cainiao will further optimize the entire link of cross-border parcels from China to Mexico and help Chinese products go overseas.
"The official opening of the Mexico distribution center will play a huge role in the 328th anniversary promotion and is also an important step for Cainiao to build a local logistics network in Latin America. Combined with digital logistics capabilities, Cainiao will be able to further optimize the logistics timeliness of the entire chain." Zhao Jun, head of Cainiao's international export supply chain, told reporters that over the past year, Cainiao's business in Latin America has achieved triple-digit growth.
Currently, Cainiao has eight charter flights to Latin America every week , connecting Hong Kong, China, Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Santiago, Chile. Combined with the construction of Cainiao's full-link cross-border logistics, the logistics time for Chinese cross-border merchants to deliver parcels to overseas consumers has been shortened from 40-50 days in the past to as fast as 12 days.
It is reported that in the fourth quarter of 2021, Cainiao International's average daily cross-border parcels exceeded 5 million, continuing to stand shoulder to shoulder with international logistics giants. Among them, the "5 US dollars for 10-day delivery" logistics product has covered 20 countries, helping more cross-border merchants "deliver to the world with the money for a cup of coffee."
