Coupang completed the Daegu logistics distribution center

According to foreign media reports, on March 24, the logistics distribution center invested and built by Korean e-commerce company Coupang in Daegu was officially completed.

Coupang Daegu Logistics and Distribution Center is currently the largest logistics and distribution center in South Korea. Construction began in March 2020 and took two years with an investment of more than 320 billion won (about 260 million US dollars). The distribution center covers an area of 330,000 square meters and has six floors.

Coupang is the leader in the Korean e-commerce market. It is extremely popular in Korea and is known as the Korean version of "Amazon". It focuses on delivery and return timeliness. According to relevant reports, the online shopping transaction volume in Korea in 2019 was 134.583 trillion won (about 11 billion US dollars), and the online shopping transaction volume in 2020 was 163.1 trillion won (about 13.4 billion US dollars), a year-on-year increase of 19.1%. The market share of Coupang's e-commerce platform has continued to rise since 2018. The number of platform members is 2,500+, and the daily active users are 3.5 million+, with high user activity.

In March 2021, Coupang announced its listing on the New York Stock Exchange. With good development prospects, Coupang began to continuously improve the infrastructure construction problems brought about by development.

But it is worth noting that since the announcement of its IPO, Coupang has been in a state of profit and loss. The epidemic blockade has enabled major e-commerce platforms to develop rapidly, but Coupang does not seem to have taken advantage of this favorable situation. Despite the company's poor profitability, Coupang has been investing heavily in the construction of large-scale logistics distribution centers.

Coupang seems to have deliberately ignored this operating situation, or it can be said that it has set its development vision for the long term. It has signed six consecutive agreements to build large-scale logistics distribution centers in South Korea, aiming to improve the platform's logistics distribution system. These large-scale logistics distribution centers built across South Korea have a total investment of 1.04 trillion won (about 850 million US dollars).

It is reported that the newly completed Daegu Logistics Distribution Center will begin testing the internally installed systems from April and is expected to start formal operations in the second half of 2023.

Coupang said that the construction of the new logistics center will bring a better experience to local customers, and they will enjoy faster next-day delivery service or rocket delivery service.
