Will the demand for “halal shoes” in the European and American markets see an explosion?

In Europe and North America, "Halal shoes" have great sales potential.

According to the Pew Research Center, the number of Muslims in Europe exceeded 44 million in 2019. Given the increasing number of Muslims in Europe and North America, the demand for halal products in Europe and the United States is likely to increase. In the footwear market, "halal shoes" will become an important market segment.

The so-called "halal shoes" are shoes made of high-quality halal raw materials. For example, in the United States, a certain shoe brand will claim that the shoes it sells "do not use pig skin" and are made of "100% halal cow, sheep and goat skin". In Sweden, there are brands that sell "real halal leather shoes" and "prayer slippers" in the form of "indoor carpet shoes".

On the Etsy platform, there are also merchants and artists selling such products, with a total of more than 80 varieties. Again, these sellers claim that their products are made of real sheepskin, lamb or goat skin. And these products are rated as "high quality" by customers.

Halal certification organization Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind Halal Trust said: Islamic law considers halal shoes to be "clean and suitable for use." Many young Muslims want to maintain their religious beliefs in a way that is easy to integrate into their daily lives, so halal shoes are also a way for Muslims living in cities to maintain their identity.

The halal certification organization said that the demand for halal shoe certification is increasing in the market. Certification organizations usually charge a certain fee to companies that request certification. The industry also prefers to process halal slaughtered animals, believing that these animals can provide high-quality leather.

In addition to the common cow and sheep leather, there are also halal shoes made of ostrich leather. In Iran, there are companies that specialize in supplying ostrich leather and export halal ostrich leather to Europe for making halal shoes.

Industry experts say developing countries can adapt to the needs of Western markets by establishing competitive halal leather product brands and offering them at competitive prices.
