Attention! eBay will update import VAT for goods sold into France

Today, eBay issued a notice stating that from January 2022, eBay will collect value-added tax on all items shipped directly from outside the EU to France. This regulation will also apply to items over 150 euros.

Subsequently, eBay pointed out that in response to this regulation, sellers need to take the following actions :

1. For items with a value of no more than 150 Euros, the seller must ensure that the eBay IOSS number is added to the package .

2.   For items valued at over €150, sellers must ensure that eBay's French VAT number is included on the package .

3. Sellers must provide the correct eBay French VAT number in the customs clearance documents . At the same time, the seller 's logistics carrier must electronically transmit the number to the customs authorities, otherwise the buyer may pay VAT again when receiving the goods.

4. Sellers need to contact their logistics carriers to understand how they will handle and transmit eBay VAT numbers .

5. If the seller is VAT registered, please update the listing on the eBay EU website and provide its tax-inclusive price and the tax rate used to calculate the tax-inclusive price to ensure that the product meets the EU compliance requirements and the price listed by the seller is competitive.

6. Sellers can add a VAT number to their eBay account via this link : https://www.ebay.com/spr/vat

If the seller has not yet registered for VAT , eBay gives the following tips:

1. If you are not VAT registered, you do not need to add the VAT rate to your listing.

2. For items imported into the European Union (including France) and when eBay is required to collect VAT on behalf of the seller , eBay will calculate the tax-inclusive price based on the seller's listed selling price.

3. The current VAT regulations will not be affected by the new regulations for direct mail to France. For items shipped directly from outside the EU to France and not exceeding 150 euros, eBay will still collect VAT on behalf of you.

Subsequently, eBay reminded sellers to familiarize themselves with the above regulations as soon as possible and make corresponding preparations. If sellers have any questions, they can consult tax consultants. In addition, eBay will not collect import duties on behalf of buyers, but some buyers may still need to pay import duties to logistics carriers.
