More than 40,000 domestically produced electric fish knives have been recalled due to the risk of tearing!

Recently, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission ( CPSC) issued an announcement stating that Scott Fetzer Consumer Brands (SFCB) announced the recall of American Angler electric fish knives due to the risk of tearing.

It is understood that this type of fish knife is thin and flexible. There are currently two types on the market, one is the traditional fish knife and the other is the electric one. The fish knife being recalled this time belongs to the latter.

Electric fish knives can help do most of the work of cleaning fish. They are designed similar to an electric reciprocating saw, with two thin blades mounted side by side on the handle. When activated, one blade pushes forward while the other pulls back.

This helps the knife cut through the skin and flesh of the fish without putting too much pressure on the blade, making it easy for the user to maintain control of the knife throughout the cleaning process. This is a good choice if people plan to clean a large number of fish.

Searching for "Electric Fillet Knives" on Amazon US brings up 191 results. Compared with categories like clothing and electronics, this is a relatively niche category.

As for the American Angler electric fish knife, it is made by a Chinese manufacturer and is currently listed as "not for sale" on the Amazon platform. In addition to the Amazon platform, retailers such as Walmart and Bass Pro Shops have also listed it, with prices ranging from US$110 to US$150.

Between January 2019 and October 2021, 43,200 American Angler electric fish knives were sold in the United States and 630 in Canada.

So far, SFCB has received 23 complaints, but no one has been injured. The company said consumers should stop using the product immediately and disconnect its power cord. Consumers can send SFCB a photo of the disconnected cord for a free replacement. As for the problematic product, consumers are required to throw it in the trash.

The affected fish knives are model 32300 and have the following serial numbers: AEK-OB-DS-003-1, AEK-OB-DS-008-1, AMK-KM-DS-003-1 and AEK-OB-RB-004-1. The model number is printed on the bottom of the EFK handle and the serial number is printed on the product packaging. The handles are printed with the words "American Angler" and are available in orange and gray.
