Attention! A container ship full of Chinese goods was hijacked

It is reported that on December 13, a container ship with a capacity of 5,551 TEU was attacked in the Gulf of Guinea, 38 nautical miles southwest of the southwest coast of Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea . According to a report by security consulting firm Dryad Global , six crew members were initially reported missing, but this was later revised to a maximum of nine.

According to VesselsValue data, the container ship is most likely the TONSBERG, which sailed from Kribi, Cameroon to the port of Cotonou , Benin on December 12 .

It is understood that this container ship was built in 2001, flies the Liberian flag , serves the route from East Asia to West Africa, and has called at several major domestic ports such as Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou and Nansha Port.

As of 13 December UTC, the vessel was floating at the site of the attack, and a helicopter from a Danish Navy ship in nearby waters was the first to come to the crew's aid, with the pilot seeing a speedboat heading north towards Nigeria upon arrival , while a nearby Danish Navy frigate also headed to the attack site for rescue.

An update on December 14 said that the crew consisted of Polish, Ukrainian and Filipino nationalities, and the number of kidnapped seafarers was unclear, most likely six, but nine was also mentioned.

It is understood that at least one crew member who escaped the kidnapping was injured in the attack. Doctors on the Danish frigate Esbern Snare are currently treating the injured crew members on board.

Container ships face many unsafe factors when sailing at sea. We hope that the relevant crew members can escape danger and return safely. In addition, if a container ship is hijacked or attacked, logistics and transportation will also be affected to a certain extent.

It is currently the peak season and the volume of commodity shipments is large. The editor would like to remind freight forwarders and sellers who have recently shipped out to sea at Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou and Nansha Port to pay close attention to the latest container shipping trends, understand freight conditions and delays, and communicate with customers in a timely manner to reduce losses caused by logistics delays.
