Chedraui is a publicly traded Mexican grocery and department store chain founded in 1927 by Lázaro Chedraui Chaya and his wife in Xalapa, Veracruz. The company is traded on the Mexican Stock Exchange.

About Chedraui

  • In 1971, Chedraui opened its first supermarket in Xalapa, Veracruz. In 2005, the company acquired 29 Carrefour supermarkets. The company's main competitors include large grocers and hypermarkets, such as SORIANA, Walmart and HEB.
  • According to Hoover's statistics, Chedraui is the fourth largest retailer in Mexico and a supermarket giant. The company owns 183 non-perishable stores, 136 Tienda Chedraui, 40 Súper Chedraui, 2 warehouse Chedraui and 5 SELECTO Chedraui. In addition to the retail business, the group also has real estate business.
  • Chedraui is headquartered in Xalapa, Mexico. Its chairman is Antonio Chedraui Obeso and its CEO is Antonio Chedraui Eguia. In fiscal 2012, the company's revenue increased by $4.9 billion and its net profit decreased by $115.3 million. It has a total of 33,018 employees.
