eBay announces it will automatically protect “seller performance”

On the evening of the 10th local time , eight states in the Midwest and Southern regions of the United States were hit by multiple tornadoes. Many buildings suffered extremely serious damage and most local people were injured or killed. Kentucky was the worst hit. It is reported that more than one hundred people are still missing.

The tornadoes in the United States this time also caused serious damage to local logistics and distribution, which will cause damage to packages or logistics delays. In response to this situation, eBay issued an announcement on December 11, 2021, stating that it would expand seller protection to sellers affected by tornadoes in the Southeast and Midwest .

eBay said it is currently monitoring the situation closely and providing additional support and protection to sellers during this challenging time.

If the seller is located in an area affected by the tornado and cannot deliver inventory, eBay recommends that the seller communicate with the buyer in a timely manner to inform the customer of the situation; or if the seller expects logistics delays, please extend the item listing processing time.

In addition, if your business is impacted, eBay will automatically protect your performance, including:

Seller's late shipment rate

Seller's valid tracking upload rate

As long as the seller uploads the tracking information before unpacking and gets a physical scan from the carrier, there will be an "item not received" due to delayed delivery

Defects caused by transactions cancelled by the seller

eBay also said it will remove any relevant negative and neutral feedback, which will not affect the seller's service indicator rating.

The tornado in the United States also caused serious damage to the power systems in many local states. According to CCTV News, more than 300,000 households have been cut off from power. US President Biden said that this may be one of the largest tornadoes in US history.

Severe meteorological disasters are force majeure factors. The United States has previously experienced a variety of natural disasters such as wildfires and tropical storms, which have caused great damage to the lives of local residents. Warehouses and logistics transportation systems have also been forced to be damaged. When a disaster occurs, sellers must communicate with buyers in a timely and patient manner, and pay attention to platform announcements in a timely manner to minimize losses.
