Packlink , a company specializing in online shipping in Europe , conducted a survey of more than 5,000 respondents from Italy, France, Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom . The results showed that Italians use e-commerce the most compared to other European countries participating in the survey.
Among Italian digital consumers, about 87.6% of Italians made online purchases in November. Large e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, eBay, and AliExpress are the most popular, with an average of 2 out of every 3 people choosing to shop on these platforms.
About 61% of people under the age of 40 shop online more than twice a month, especially during promotional periods in areas with larger discounts, this proportion rises to 75%. The proportion of consumers who spend between 50 and 150 euros online per month is 64.8%.
According to the survey, Italian consumers prefer to buy clothing online, accounting for 57.95%; technology products account for 55.18%; and entertainment products such as video games, books and other commodities account for 52.02%.
Among them , consumers between the ages of 18 and 30 tend to buy the most fashion products; consumers aged 45 to 55 or above prefer to buy high-tech products.
The survey results show that Italian consumers are now consciously choosing brands or products that are in line with environmental development, with 61% of consumers willing to pay a surcharge for environmentally friendly goods.
56.27 % of Italian consumers will first check if there are discount codes or special offers when shopping online. On the other hand, consumers in Liguria are the most generous, with 24% spending more than 150 euros, 10% higher than the average.
Packlink 's marketing director mentioned that during Christmas 2020, our online purchases increased by 36%, which shows that Italians' consumption habits are changing. It is undeniable that the epidemic has affected Italians' consumption behavior, and research has confirmed that this change is accelerating and will continue.
Although Italian consumers do not spend the most on e-commerce among European countries, they are currently the most frequent consumers of e-commerce platforms. According to the above survey results, Italians have a positive attitude towards the development of e-commerce, and more and more people will choose to shop online. Therefore, the development prospects of e-commerce in Italy are also worth looking forward to for companies and sellers.
According to relevant survey results, understanding the consumption habits and psychology of local consumers and adjusting product selection and layout will help increase store traffic and sales.
