Shopify expands Pinterest social commerce channel to 27 new markets

According to foreign media reports, Shopify recently expanded its partnership with Pinterest to 27 new markets in addition to the United States and Canada, including Australia and European countries such as the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.

Shopify's partnership with Pinterest first kicked off in May last year , when Shopify launched a Pinterest app in its App Store, which allowed sellers to easily upload their product catalogs to Pinterest and convert their store products into "Pins," activating the purchasing potential of the social network's 459 million monthly active users.

Lola Oyelayo-Pearson, Shopify's director of channels and financial services, said the partnership between Shopify and Pinterest can help sellers improve their ability to market and sell in multiple places while eliminating the complexity of channel management.

Moreover, the expansion of this partnership will help Shopify merchants around the world create targeted, follower-boosting advertising marketing campaigns directly through the Pinterest channel without leaving the Shopify backend.

Additionally, Shopify said it saw a 76% increase in installs of its social commerce channel from February 2020 to February 2021. Meanwhile, Pinterest claims its image-sharing platform now serves 450 million users per month, and that 83% of users have discovered brands and purchased products through Pinterest, with strong purchase intent.

Therefore, Pinterest executive Bill Watkins pointed out that the high purchasing desire of Pinterest users will greatly help the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, providing them with a positive sales environment that can establish direct contact with consumers.

In addition to expanding Pinterest sales channels, Shopify also introduced dynamic retargeting ads launched by Pinterest in January this year . This advertising feature can help sellers automatically create personalized ads based on users' personal behavior and establish intuitive marketing campaigns. Sellers can add up to 20 products to their Pinterest accounts and create multi-page summaries for product catalogs.

In terms of Shopify's overall layout to expand social media marketing channels for merchants, expanding its partnership with Pinterest is just the latest achievement of its efforts over the past year.

In February this year , Shopify announced plans to expand its existing partnerships with TikTok and Facebook, including expanding TikTok marketing services to Canada, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, and expanding its payment service Shop Pay to Facebook and Instagram, expanding its coverage in the payment field. In addition, Shopify has also been integrating functions with Youtube, allowing Shopify sellers to sell products directly through Youtube.

It is worth mentioning that Shopify's embrace of major social media platforms conforms to the rapid growth trend of social e-commerce in recent years. According to the survey, the average person spends 2 hours and 22 minutes on social media every day. It is estimated that online consumption through mobile terminals will reach 3.56 trillion US dollars in 2021, and social commerce sales in the US market in 2021 are expected to climb to 36 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 35% from 2020 .

Therefore, social e-commerce is indeed a sales channel that cannot be missed. As Shopify accelerates its layout in the field of social e-commerce, sellers can also formulate their own social e-commerce sales plans accordingly and seize the opportunity of explosive sales!
