Australia's Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping weekend set to break records

Australia Post expects this year 's Black Friday Cyber Monday to be its biggest promotion yet , with sales significantly exceeding last year's.

In 2020, 2.2 million Australian households participated in the Black Friday Cyber Monday deals, and this year is expected to be higher . Statistics show that the early Black Friday Cyber Monday promotions in Australia have increased online purchases by 16% in the week of November 13 .

Last November was the most important month in the history of online shopping in Australia, with a year-on-year increase of 55%. In 2020, the two weeks adjacent to the Black Friday Cyber Monday promotion week achieved the highest sales of the year.

" We hope shoppers will take advantage of online sales and order their Christmas gifts as soon as possible so they receive their purchases on time , " said Gary Starr, executive general manager of business, government and international at Australia Post .

“We know that people are watching the big online sales events closely and planning ahead for what they want to buy, so we expect volumes to be much higher this year . After last year’s surge in online sales weekend , we are entering our busiest two days of the year, processing 3.22 million parcels on December 1 and 3.12 million on December 2, added Starr.

To ensure those purchases get to people's doorsteps as quickly as possible, Australia Post has deployed more delivery planes, and thousands of extra staff to sort and deliver parcels .

With many buyers starting their shopping early this year, Australians are expected to spend even more than the record-breaking $5.57 billion spent in November last year.

Due to the impact of the epidemic, Australia's social e-commerce market has grown by 700% in the past two years . According to PayPal's latest e-commerce index report, Australia's social e-commerce market share has soared in the past two years, and one in four people are using social media to shop.

The pandemic has also prompted one in six Australians to start shopping online regularly, with nearly a third adding items to their carts and waiting for special prices or coupons.

Although the Australian market is not as large as the US and European markets, it is very dependent on imported goods from China and the public consumption level is relatively high, so the profit margins of products will also be considerable.
