Children's sweaters recalled due to excessive lead content in zippers

A sweater was recalled because the zipper contained excessive lead content.

We often hear about recall cases, and clothing is also a frequent recall. Recently, a sweater was recalled because the lead content in the zipper exceeded the standard.

The recalled sweaters are available in children's sizes 0 to 8. The fabric is wool and the colors are dark gray, blue or black with multi-color patterns. In addition, the sweater has a hood and a zipper in the front with drawstrings at the top and bottom of the zipper .

The recall is due to excessive levels of lead in the paint on the zipper pulls . Excessive lead can be toxic to young children or cause other health problems if the paint is ingested. The sweater was sold from December 2020 to January 2021 and cost about $29.

According to the recommendations of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, consumers should stop using it immediately and contact the brand for a full refund.

Among the reasons for clothing recalls, the most common one is the flammability standard. There are also cases of recalls due to non-compliance with federal standards, but sellers should not ignore the hidden risks in other aspects. For example, in the previous case, the risk of suffocation caused by detached buttons was also the reason for the recall. This time it was caused by lead content. There are many small details that need to be paid attention to.

And in several previous studies that followed CPSC standards, results showed that some brands of children's products contained 30 times more lead than regulators allow.

Excessive lead levels can cause serious health problems, including attacks on the brain and central nervous system, decreased fertility, depression, heart and kidney disease , etc. This risk may be more serious for children.

In response to this problem, the New York governor recently issued new legislation that requires certain products that use lead-based wire casings to be labeled with warning labels, mainly targeting Christmas and various lighting decorations. Sellers who do not meet the standards will be fined. If the seller's product contains lead, they must pay attention to the dosage standard.

Product quality issues cannot be underestimated, especially for children's products, sellers must be extremely cautious.
