Online sales may reach $900 billion this year, and US e-commerce remains strong

Recently, Digital Commerce 360 , a research organization , released this year 's forecast report on the US e-commerce market . The organization analyzed five aspects and predicted that all five indicators would exceed last year's levels.

Digital Commerce 360 projects that online holiday sales during the crucial November-December period could surpass the $200 billion mark for the first time , reaching $215.45 billion , which would be higher than the revised 2020 figure of $192.19 billion .

Strong holiday sales will drive total U.S. online retail sales to $886.2 billion in 2021 , up 16.2% from $762.68 billion in 2020 and 53.2 % from $578.5 billion in 2019.

The growth in sales means that the share of online sales will further expand. According to Digital Commerce 360 , online sales will account for nearly 20% of the US retail market this year , at 19.6%. Although the estimate is only a 0.5% increase from last year , Digital Commerce 360 said that even if consumers return to physical stores, as e-commerce platforms such as Amazon increase their investments, this number is expected to continue to grow.

If you want to talk about which retailers will have the fastest online business growth, it must be pure online retailers. According to Digital Commerce 360 's forecast, pure online retailers will grow 29.8% overall, based on the previous year's growth of 38.3%, followed by consumer brand manufacturers, which will grow 24.4%, followed by retail chains (15.9%) and direct sellers (12.0%).

Digital Commerce 360 said the pandemic is an accelerator for e-commerce. This year, pandemic- related changes in purchases will add nearly $132 billion to U.S. online retail. Although this year 's 16.2% e-commerce growth rate will be significantly lower than 31.8% in 2020 ( the highest growth rate in 20 years ), the U.S. e-commerce market will still reach the 2023 level that experts previously expected this year.

Staying ahead in e-commerce is no easy feat , but according to Digital Commerce 360 , U.S. e-commerce will continue to grow this year.
