Attention! Amazon sellers will need to ensure Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance starting next year

Recently, according to the news from Amazon Global Store, starting from 2022, if sellers sell goods on Amazon Germany or France, Amazon will be obliged to confirm whether the sellers meet the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements in the country/region where the goods are sold. Therefore, Amazon will collect and verify the seller's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) registration number.

Amazon said it expects to publish a link for uploading the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) registration number by the end of this year . If sellers cannot prove to Amazon that they meet the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements, Amazon will take the following measures:

1. Amazon Germany: Amazon will be obliged to suspend all non-compliant products listed by sellers under the EPR product category.

( 1) Packaging: All products from July 1, 2022

( 2) Electrical and electronic equipment (EEE): All goods that are electrical and electronic equipment from January 1, 2023.

2. Amazon France: Currently, Amazon is waiting for French regulators to release more relevant information and will promptly inform sellers of the specific details of this information. Amazon recommends that sellers pay attention to notifications from Amazon's official channels.

Amazon points out that if sellers want to ensure EPR compliance, they need to follow the following steps:

1. Register

Sellers need to complete a one-time registration process to obtain the EPR registration number required to prove compliance with the extended producer responsibility requirements . After receiving the registration number, sellers need to inform Amazon to prove that they meet the policy requirements. Amazon expects to share the link for uploading the EPR registration number before the end of this year .

2. Declaration and Reporting

Sellers must report their sales volumes [of commodities covered by each EPR commodity category] to the relevant producer responsibility organization during the trial reporting period .

3. Payment

Sellers must pay an environmental fee to the relevant producer responsibility organization . The environmental fee is determined by the producer responsibility organization based on the EPR product category and device type (e.g. refrigerator, baby clothes, chair), product attributes (e.g. packaging materials, furniture materials) and the quantity or weight of the goods sold.
