Spanish e-commerce sales grew 14%, faster than the global level!

European e-commerce developed rapidly in 2020 , and Spain's performance deserves everyone's attention.

In 2020, the sales of small and medium-sized sellers in Spain on Amazon exceeded 650 million euros, a year-on-year increase of 30%, and the cumulative sales exceeded 60 million items. In other words, an average of 100 items are sold every minute, which is a considerable sales volume.

According to the latest data, Spanish e-commerce sales increased by 14% in the third quarter of 2021, which is about 3 percentage points higher than the global average growth rate.

Among them, the fastest growing category is furniture. According to AliExpress statistics, the highest monthly growth rate of Spanish home furnishings exceeded 260%.

But it is worth noting that the average order price in Spain is lower than the global level. The average unit price in Spain is about $76.91, while the global average order price is about $103.43.

Although Spanish people like online shopping, their order abandonment rate is relatively high. According to data, the order abandonment rate is about 91% when shopping online through mobile devices, which is much higher than the global rate of 86%. In addition to the high price of the product, the main reasons for their order abandonment are the lack of return or exchange support or complicated procedures, and the unwillingness to disclose personal information when paying.

Due to economic reasons, Spanish consumers prefer to buy high-quality and low-priced products. And Spanish people like free gifts. No matter how much the value is, as long as they get a free gift, they will feel happy. So sellers can learn from this when formulating marketing strategies.

In terms of the choice of e-commerce platform, Amazon is still the first choice for Spanish consumers because of its rich product variety and fast logistics; the second is AliExpress Spain, which offers preferential prices and is exactly what the Spanish people who like high-quality and low-priced goods want.

In terms of product selection, Spanish people often buy clothes, shoes, home electronics and books online. In addition, auto parts and food are also popular categories. Moreover, the value of most online shopping products is around US$100-500.

Although nearly 80% of Spanish consumers said that the reason they initially chose online shopping was mostly due to the epidemic, 90% of new users said they would continue to use e-commerce platforms to shop in the future. Most consumers prefer to shop in a combination of online and offline modes .

It can be seen from this that in the short term, the growth momentum of e-commerce in Spain will not slow down, and it is not too late to seize this market now.
