A container ship full of Chinese goods caught fire

A container ship full of Chinese goods caught fire

Recently, a container ship named "ZIM Kingston" has been worrying thousands of foreign trade people. First, the container fell into the sea due to a storm, and then the ship caught fire due to the collapse of the container, which made the already delayed and congested supply chain even worse.

It is reported that the "Zim Kingston" freighter served the Maersk ZP9 route and had called at many ports such as Kaohsiung, Xiamen, Yantian, Ningbo and Shanghai, fully loaded with Chinese goods. On October 22, the freighter encountered a storm when it was about to arrive at the Port of Vancouver, Canada, and several containers collapsed and fell into the nearby sea.

The day after the crash, the ship caught fire again while anchored near Victoria . The fire was caused by damaged containers still on board . Fortunately, the ship was not far from the coastline, and a nearby Canadian Coast Guard vessel was able to provide assistance. The fire on the "Zim Kingston" has been brought under control .

According to a statement from the Canadian Coast Guard, 106 containers were determined to be lost at sea , rather than the initial estimate of 40 through aircraft observation . The crew then took inventory of the ship's cargo and determined the latest number of lost containers to be conservatively 109, a number that is likely to continue to rise.

Two of the containers contained hazardous chemicals that could have an impact on the surrounding environment, while the rest were filled with a range of items including Christmas decorations , sofas, poker tables, metal car parts, clothing, toys, yoga mats, stand-up paddle boards and industrial parts .

Maria McCue, deputy federal incident commander for the Canadian Coast Guard , said a Coast Guard helicopter is currently en route to the accident site to identify the containers floating in the ocean and determine if they match the ones that fell overboard from the Zim Kingston.

Since these containers are not waterproof and have been hit hard by rough seas, it is expected that some of them have sunk into the deep sea. At the same time, the whereabouts of the two containers containing dangerous chemicals that slipped off the ship are still unknown.

It is unknown how many sellers' peak season sales plans will be affected by this incident. Shippers with goods on the ship must pay close attention to the progress of the incident! At the same time, the editor would like to remind you not to forget to insure the goods when shipping!
