59% of U.S. holiday shoppers plan to buy online, and spending on health products will increase significantly

A holiday survey reveals what makes holiday shoppers choose one brand over another, the top purchase categories and the groups driving online spending.

Recently, research and consulting company Coresight Research conducted a survey and analysis of American consumers, revealing the important factors that influence consumers' holiday shopping choices and consumers' shopping plans for this holiday.

The results of the study show that fast and free delivery is one of the most important factors consumers consider when choosing holiday shopping, while product pricing is the second most important factor, followed by easy and free product returns for online orders .

The study noted that discounts and promotions ranked fifth among consumers' considerations, indicating that American shoppers prioritized the convenience of express delivery and the value of products over discounts and promotional products during the holiday shopping season .

On average, about 59% of U.S. consumers expect spending to be online this holiday season , up from 52% in 2020. Notably, consumers over the age of 60 will account for a large portion of e-commerce growth this holiday season . In addition , one-third of shoppers aged 30-44 say they will shop more offline this year .

The survey results also show that American consumers will increase their spending on health products during the holiday shopping period. According to Coresight Research , 56% of consumers plan to buy more health products than last year . This includes vitamins, dietary supplements and therapeutic devices , and this applies to almost all age groups.

In addition to health products, consumers also plan to increase spending on groceries this holiday season , which may increase by 22% compared to the same period last year . The second largest category is fashion products, including clothing, footwear and fashion accessories , with consumers planning to increase spending on this category by 18% compared to the same period last year .

Overall, sales will see strong growth during this year's holiday shopping season, and shoppers will use both online and in-store channels to shop . Sellers should do a good job of inventory management of products and provide consumers with better logistics services and shopping experience.
